The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, earlier this morning monitored the accreditation, distribution of election materials and voting process of the ongoing council election for their council chairmen and Councillors in Abuja.
Yakubu urged residents to come out and cast their vote when he visited some of the INEC Super Registration Areas Centres .
However, he said that almost all vehicles had left for distribution of materials at Gwarinpa when his team visited.
According to him, ” some Nigerians were complaining that INEC said polls will open by 8 a.m but the materials and ad-hoc staff are yet to be at some centres ,this is the reason we are moving round to ensure that materials and staff are very close to the polling units on Friday, so that on Saturday ad-hoc staff can move into the polling units and set up before 8 a.m when the election will commence.”the fuel scarcity in the nation’s capital, but said that the commission had put in measures to address the situation.
Still speaking, he said Fuel scarcity which the country is currently faced with ,is also slowing down the electoral commission work .” As of the time we started the preparation there was no fuel scarcity which is now affecting all and sundry and it is a draw back but we have put in our best to address the situation. We are working to have a successful election by God’s grace.”
