Chioma, who is the House Committee Chairman on Judiciary, was said to have been abducted Tuesday night around Diobu area of Port Harcourt by three armed men.
It was gathered that the lawmaker had gone to inspect his building still under construction before he was accosted and whisked away by the hoodlums.
Though it was also learnt that Chioma fell into the hands of his captors on his way to visit a friend, a source, who preferred not to be mentioned, told The PUNCH that the lawmaker was walking to his car after inspecting the house before he was stopped and forced into a waiting vehicle by the unknown gunmen.
Sources said the incident, which occurred between 7.30pm and 8.00pm caused confusion within the area as residents watched helplessly as the lawmaker was being driven away.
“He was kidnapped while he was walking to his car after doing some check on his building that is under construction. The three guys just blocked him. They were with guns and moved him into their car and drove away,” an eyewitness said.
However, the Media Assistant to the Speaker of the State House of assembly, Mr. Jim Okpiki, said the lawmaker’s abductors had yet to establish contact with their victim’s family, friends or colleagues.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mohammad Ahmad, confirmed the incident, saying, “He (Chioma) was actually kidnapped and all efforts have been mobilised to safely rescue him. He was kidnapped yesterday at Diobu within the hour of 20.00.
