Casualties as protest in UNIPORT gets bloody


The Aftermath of tuition fee increment at University of Port-harcourt (UNIPORT) has turned out sour. As thousands of students of the school took to the street to protest. The aggrieved students call the hike of their tuition fee as ‘unjustifiable’ . To out-pour their grievances, they blocked the Choba end of East-West Road in the Rivers State capital and stopping any academic activities from taking place in the university.

According to Channels Television, the Dean of Student Affairs of the university, Otto Ekpenyung said he was trying to handle a flash point at the time contacted.

Although, Security agencies were seen during the protest positioned to check the situation from getting out of hand but some casualties have reportedly been recorded in the protest which started earlier on Monday.

In a statement by Deputy Registrar in Charge of Information, William Wodi, all students are to vacate their hostel accommodation before 6: 00 pm on Monday and the Students’ Union  and their affiliate bodies have also been suspended till further notice.
