At the popular Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, on Sunday, supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State clashed over drilling of a borehole for the traders.
Recall that the market was recently razed by fire on August 16. The inability of the market fire station to get water had been blamed for the inferno that started just after 9 pm August 16 evening with millions of property destroyed.
However, the state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, promised to help the traders with financial assistance, other notable people in the state visited the traders and promised to help them too.
One of them was the PDP governorship aspirant, Seyi Makinde, who said he would drill a borehole at the market to forestall future occurrence.
Makinde did not waste time in fulfilling his promise by starting the project. However, on Sunday, workers at the site of the project were allegedly attacked by some people, who also blocked the 70-foot borehole with stones and pebbles. This act received condemnation from everyone in the market and environs as they all suspect it to be from the pained APC members.
The attackers were alleged to have been sponsored by the Chairman of the South-West council area of the state, Mr. Taoheed Adeleke, under whose council the market falls. Eyewitnesses said hoodlums came in large number with cutlasses and other weapons. Adeleke, however, denied this claim
